The Avanti! Chamber Orchestra was established at the initiative of Esa-Pekka Salonen and Jukka-Pekka Saraste. Every year since 1986 the orchestra has organized the Avanti! Summer Sounds music festival, which is held just after Midsummer and represents one of our most prominent summer events.

Old-Time Market and the Doors Open Event
For centuries, Porvoo has been a place where people gather at the market to buy and sell. This tradition is still upheld. The autumn and Christmas markets in Old Porvoo tempt people to get to know regional handicrafts and to try out local delicacies. The vendors are dressed in the spirit of old times. In June the Doors Open garden event gives the passer-by an opportunity to peek into the idyllic courtyards of today. You can collect a list of private courtyards that you may visit, at the Porvoo City Tourist Office.

Summer concerts on Thursdays from 3 Jun to 26 Aug at 8 pm and a short organ concerts (15 min) are held from 1 Jun to 31 Aug at noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Porvoo Cathedral.

SUMMER MARKETS
Pellinki summer market, open every Saturday from 29 May to 18 Sep (not on 26 Jun) from 9 am to noon; during Midsummer week, the summer market is on Fri 25 Jun, while the evening market is held every Wednesday from 7 July to 28 July from 5:30 pm to 7 pm.
Bjurböle summer market, open every Friday, from 4 Jun to 27 Aug (not on 25 Jun) from 3 pm to 6:30 pm; during Midsummer week, the summer market is on Thursday, 24 Jun.
